What is a Personal Chef?
A personal chef is a chef who comes directly to your home to cook for you/your family on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. A personal chef prepares the food, stores the food in your storage containers in the refrigerator/freezer, labels the food with cooking instructions, and cleans up afterwards, leaving your home smelling great, with a fridge/freezer full of nutritious, delicious meals! A personal chef differs from a private chef in that a private chef is a full-time employee of an individual or family who prepares and serves the food on a daily basis.
How do your Personal Chef services work?
If you would like to set up personal chef services with us, please complete the form on our Home page or contact us at 941-928-1001. We will then arrange a home consultation for you with one of our Cooking Quest Service Coordinators, at which time you may choose a Meal Plan and tell us about your food preferences and how often you'd like our services per month. After this meeting, and you choose to sign-up with our services, we will assign you your personal chef, who will then review your Menu Planning Questionnaire, prepare a working menu for you for the month, and then contact you to finalize the menu and set up cooking dates for the month. The Chef will then come to your home on the designated cooking days, spending the day in your kitchen preparing mouth-watering meals. They will then store the meals in the containers of your choice in your refrigerator and/or freezer, clean up your kitchen, and leave your home filled with the delightful aroma of home-cooked meals!
Are your Personal Chef's qualified?
Yes, indeed! Our personal chefs come highly qualified and are up-to-date on food safety/preparation, ready to cook delicious and nutritious meals in the comfort of your own home!
Do you offer kid-friendly food?
Yes, your personal chef can create one or more entrées/sides to be kid-friendly. Simply write this down on your Menu Planning Questionnaire at the time of your home consultation or mention this to your personal chef.
Who gets the groceries for my designated cooking day?
Once your personal chef has prepared a menu plan for you for the month, he/she will send you a list of ingredients you will need for each designated cooking day, based on the recipes he/she will be making that day. It is then up to the Client to purchase these ingredients and have them at the ready on the designated cooking days. There are several grocery delivery services in the area. Please contact Publix grocery store (they offer delivery through a couple different services--Instacart and Shipt.com) or Wal-Mart.com (online grocery purchase/Client pick-up) to get more information about these services.
Why can’t the Chef just purchase the groceries for me and bring them to my home?
Our personal chefs do not purchase groceries and are not authorized to do so if asked by clients as no money may be exchanged from client to chef or chef to client.
Why can't the Personal Chef prepare the food at their home and bring it to mine? It would save time. Due to strict health regulations, the personal chef may not prepare food and transport food to Client's home. All cooking done by the personal chef must be done at the Client's residence and no place else.
Do you offer "fresh" or "self-service"? I have a dinner party coming up and would like a personal chef to prepare the food. for my guests. Or, I'd simply just like the food they make left out for our dinner. Is this possible?
At present, we do not offer "fresh" or "self-serve" service. The personal chef must store all perishable items they prepare at the Client's home in the Client's refrigerator or freezer, as per Client specification, with only non-perishable items being left out (unless Client wishes to store them in the same manner as perishable items).
Can you work with special diets?
Our personal chefs are versed in many methods of cooking and can accommodate a wide variety of dietary preferences such as: vegan, vegetarian, spa-cuisine, nut-free, allergy-free, gluten-free, low-fat, low-carb, diabetic, and more. If you have a special diet that you follow that you would like your personal chef take into consideration when creating your monthly menu, please let us know during your consultation on your food questionnaire.**
How often does a personal chef come to my home to cook?
Normally, a personal chef comes once or twice a week, depending on which service plan you choose, with the minimum number of cooking days per month being two.
Can I get daily meal service instead of weekly meal service, which doesn't need stored, just put out in serving dishes?
At present, we offer weekly or bi-weekly meal service, not daily "fresh" service. If we receive enough demand for daily "fresh" service, however, we will consider adding this to our repertoire. Please remember to email us if you would like us to start offering daily service.
Do you offer cooking lessons?
We will soon be adding cooking lessons to our repertoire, so keep checking our “Services” page over the coming months, or send us an inquiry via email. We may be able to arrange something with one of our personal chefs.
My friend wants Personal Chef services. Do you offer any type of referral incentive?
We certainly do! For each sign-on referral we receive (from current Clients or anyone!) we offer said referral a $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble! Please email us and we will send you a referral form.
What if I'm not pleased with my service? Can I be reimbursed?
Cooking Quest will provide each client with a qualified chef who will expertly prepare your meals. The chef, however, cannot be held responsible for faulty kitchen appliances or food that client provides that is not up to par, which could ultimately alter the taste/texture of the dishes the chef prepares. No reimbursements will be offered for any service that the client has already received--whether partial or complete. Should client choose to halt or cancel services in any month he/she has already paid for services, a two-week notice, in writing will be necessary, and reimbursement for the remaining sessions for the month--minus the initial two-week notice time, could be refunded.
I have two large dogs who don't like strangers. Could I still have a personal chef come to my home?
If you have dogs or any other animals that don't take well to strangers and you are considering having a chef in your home for an entire cooking day several times a month, we would advise against this. The only way a personal chef could come to your home with dangerous pets around would be for the client to lock them in a safe location far from the chef's location for the entire duration of the chef's visit—with the pet's owner present so that he/she could monitor the situation to make sure the pet did not get out of its enclosure.
P.S. If you have dangerous humans in the home that don’t take well to strangers, we do not suggest signing up for our personal chef services, as we will never knowingly put our chefs in a dangerous or uncomfortable situation.
Can the chef use my own recipes?
Your personal chef will prepare a monthly menu for you based on his/her choices on your completed food questionnaire. If you have a particular recipe you would like your chef to use, please make note of this on your food questionnaire. In addition, advise your chef of this when he contacts you to review your menu for the month so that he/she can take this and any other special request into consideration when planning the monthly menu. If the recipe you offer the chef is vague, however, or not a tried and true recipe, your chef may either choose not to make it or, if he/she does make it on your behalf, he/she cannot be responsible if the results are not as good as expected.
Do you offer dessert?
We will soon be offering a "Dessert Day" where the chef will prepare all your favorite sweet treats and bread items you will need for the week
Can I take part in the personal chef's cooking?
While it is fine for a client to ask questions of his/her personal chef during the chef's cooking day, he/she should keep questions to a minimum so that the chef may carry out his/her duties in a timely, efficient manner. In addition, the client should not take on any cooking tasks pertaining to the meals the chef is preparing during the chef’s designated cooking day.
What appliances will I need for my personal chef to be able to cook in my kitchen?
If you are able to adequately prepare a meal in your home, then your chef will be able to as well. If you have any appliances that are on the fritz, however, please indicate this on your food questionnaire.. Normal household appliances include: oven, microwave, toaster, blender, mixer (or hand-mixer), kitchen utensils, dishwasher, etc.
**MEDICAL DISCLAIMER: Please note that our chefs are culinary professionals and not medical professionals. As such, they will take into consideration your specific dietary needs when creating your menu plans, however, they are not able to provide medical or professional health care advice, nor may they prescribe a food remedy or use food as treatment for any ailment, blemish, deformity, disease, disfigurement, disorder, injury, or other physical or mental condition of any person when engaged as a personal chef for Cooking Quest. If you have questions about your dietary lifestyle, food allergies, diet plan, or any other dietary concerns, or if you suspect you might have any health problems, you should consult a physician.
